Senior Advisor

Pedro Guimaraes joined Vestar in 2020 to serve as a Senior Advisor focused on developing and implementing a buy & build strategy in the broad Quality, Environmental, Health, and Safety-QEHS’ Testing, Inspection, and Certification-TIC services market.

Pedro is an accomplished and energetic Business/Industrial Services Executive with a successful leadership track record in numerous international markets through a variety market conditions.

Pedro is currently a Board member at FST Technical Services, a US specialty engineering company serving the semiconductor and biopharma sectors. Prior to that, Pedro provided advisory services to several financial sponsors investing in the broad TIC Market, including the Riverside Company.

Pedro dedicated more than 30 years of his career to Bureau Veritas Group (ticker: BVI), with 18 years of experience in top executive leadership positions and serving on the Group Executive Committee. During his tenure at Bureau Veritas, Pedro actively developed and inspired his teams, driving them to deliver superior performance (through strategy, sales, quality of services, organic and inorganic growth, margin improvement, and cash conversion), launch innovative services, and turnaround underperforming businesses. His leadership contributed to the company’s outstanding growth story during his tenure, growing from ~$300 million/~3,500 employees to $6 billion+/~70,000 employees.

Through several international leadership assignments at Bureau Veritas, Pedro developed the company’s global network of TIC services, spanning North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia and Pacific, and the Middle East. The network serves multiple end markets, including Agri-Food, Automotive, Commodities Products, Construction & Real Estate, Consumer Products, Energy, Government Services, Infrastructure & Transportation, International Trade, Manufacturing, and Marine & Offshore.

Originally from Brazil, Pedro earned a B.S. in Naval Architecture at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, in Brazil, a MBA at the Ecole Supérieur de Commerce de Paris, in France, and a MBA at COPEAD – UFRJ at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, in Brazil. Additionally, Pedro received continuing education credits in Corporate Management from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, in the United States.

Pedro is a cultural diversity enthusiast, which led him to master the English, French and Spanish languages, in addition to his native language, Portuguese.

The deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor and the recent hate crimes and incidents against members of the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community, including the attack on Vilma Kari are only the latest examples of centuries of racism, brutality, and discrimination against BIPOC people in our country. These events cannot be tolerated. Nor can they be observed in silence. They go against everything we stand for as individuals and as a firm, and they demand a response.

Vestar stands with those who fight against social injustice and condemns the prejudice and inhumanity so brutally demonstrated and clearly witnessed. We have always strived to do the right thing in our everyday business activities, but we realize now that isn’t enough, and we are committed to listening, learning, and doing more.

All of us at Vestar are recommitting to taking steps to effect permanent change. Beyond our longer-term commitments, Vestar has taken immediate steps to make changes within our own operations, including:

i.) Establishing the Equity, Inclusion and Community (“EIC”) Committee, which seeks to promote and provide ongoing educational resources and regular events on topics of anti-racism, equality, and social justice for all employees

ii.) Providing all employees with unconscious bias training

iii.) Conducting anonymous internal surveys to assess employee perceptions of the inclusivity of our culture

iv.) Improving our recruitment and retention initiatives by expanding our pipeline of candidates, conducting off-cycle hiring, and partnering with groups like SEO, a non-profit that provides educational and career programs to underserved and/or under-represented young people, to connect us with talented undergraduates for internships at our firm
